Bethel Military Missions
Seeking to SUPPORT our military through the power of the gospel
“for the love of Christ constraineth us…” II Cor. 5:14a
Unique Bible Studies
In addition to regular Sunday School Bible studies that are incorporated into Bethel’s College and Career Class, “Group Leaders” are encouraged to establish intermittent or regularly-scheduled Bible studies, unique to the needs of military personnel, in their homes or at the church on non-church nights throughout the week. These leaders will be responsible for recruiting, visitation, and discipling ministries while working alongside active duty members of Bethel who have established contacts through prayer groups.
Prayer Groups in Local UnitsAll men and women on active duty will be encouraged to consider starting a daily or weekly prayer group within their own unit, or at a specified place on their installation before work or during lunch time. These service members will be designated as “Associates” and in effect will serve as the front line missionaries for all activities of Bethel Military Missions (BMM). They will be sent out from the church and given guidelines and training that will help them establish their own ministries while encouraging full participation in all Bethel ministries.
Part-Time Family CareServicemen and women who are often away from their homes for the first time in their lives and do not yet have a home of their own established can be comforted and encouraged by the love of a “Part-Time Family.” These Bethel church members will invite them over on special occasions, such as holidays or birthdays, and generally demonstrate a Christ-like interest in their lives. They will also maintain continuous correspondence with them should they be deployed overseas.
Outings and Activities
An active schedule of outings and activities is critical to the success of Bethel Military Missions. A monthly Friday and/or Saturday event of extraordinary interest and excitement is needed to attract young people and keep them coming back. A number of “Recreation Directors” will be tasked with a rotating responsibility of providing fun and fellowship for all servicemen and women in unit prayer groups, Bible studies, and the church.
Resource and Publication DistributionBible study curriculum, Bible tracts, discipleship courses, topical books, t-shirts, publicity flyers, newsletters and personal letters are some of the things that are needed to successfully maintain all of the facets of BMM. “Publications Directors” will be needed to coordinate the various resource needs of the ministry, procure all items, and then distribute them as needed. The church web site, local military installation publications, and military community bulletin boards will all be used to maximize the exposure of BMM.
Transportation and LogisticsAlthough most local military members have their own transportation, many of them (especially those in a training status) do not. Therefore, BMM has “Drivers” available to coordinate and at times provide transportation to outings, Bible studies, and church services as needed.
